2023-present: Communications manager for the Department of Computer Science. I plan and execute a comprehensive communications program that amplifies the research of our faculty and graduate students, as well as the impacts of donor giving on students, the richness of our students’ experience, and alumni achievement and participation. I plan, supervise, and execute major social media campaigns that support Giving Day and other college and department priorities. I promote our department to alumni and peer institutions with digital newsletters sent during strategic times of the year to support our fundraising and rankings goals. I am currently in the process of overhauling our department website to bring it into compliance with university accessibility, branding, and user-focused design standards. I hire and supervise two communications interns who assist with social media and writing tasks.
2021-2023: Communications manager for three departments in the College of Engineering. I report, write, and produce multimedia projects for Virginia Tech daily news and departmental websites, pitch stories to reporters and arrange interviews for them, supervise a marketing intern, run 12 social media channels, administer and design three departmental websites, as well as doing email marketing, event planning, and strategic communications planning.
2020-21: Adjunct instructor, School of Communication, teaching visual media to sophomore-senior communication majors, including Adobe Creative Suite, page and web design, photography, and videography.

March-June 2018: Editor, managing two reporters, overseeing a stable of regular freelance writers, assigning stories, writing editorials, designing and publishing a digital version of the news, reporting stories, photojournalism, and working with page designers and other staff to produce a twice-weekly newspaper.

2016-21: General assignment reporter responsible for finding interesting and important stories of every kind, from features to enterprise news reporting. Shooting, editing and producing video and audio for Roanoke.com.
2009-16: Higher education reporter responsible for covering federal and state policy and budget changes and their effects on Virginia Tech and Radford University students, faculty and staff, as well as the outlying communities that depend on them. Researching and writing about scientific and research projects, findings, and discoveries. Developing sources at every level of the university, and state and local government.
2009: Faith and spirituality reporter responsible for covering local and state religious trends and news.
2004-09: Local government reporter responsible for covering a seven-member town council, local politics, features, investigative and project stories in a university town. Stories included affordable housing projects and issues, as well as environmental and green energy topics. Also shooting, editing and producing online audiovisual stories and videos to supplement print stories.
2002-04: Editorial assistant responsible for covering religion, arts and entertainment and general assignment stories in a 4-county area. Coordinated two large community events calendars for a zoned tabloid insert and various other clerical jobs. Served on the newspaper’s Council for Leveraging Difference for company-wide diversity initiatives.
